The first few weeks: what to expect

Updated Jul 18, 2026

At the beginning, appetite drops off a cliff, and it’s easy to undereat without noticing. Two things help right away:

Eat the protein first. If your hunger fades halfway through the plate, at least the muscle-preserving part is already in.

Drink water throughout the day even if you’re not thirsty. The pen dulls your sense of thirst, so you can get dehydrated without realizing it. Sip between meals, not with them (liquid in a full stomach can make nausea worse).

Smaller portions more often usually go down better than a big plate all at once.

This is information to help you understand what you’re experiencing; it does not replace your doctor. Only your doctor can adjust the pen, dose, and treatment plan.
